The gayageum or kayagum is a traditional Korean string instrument, composed of 12 strings. This instrument shares roots with other Asian counterparts such as the Chinese guzheng, the Japanese koto, the Mongolian yatga, and the Vietnamese đàn tranh. Widely recognized as a key element of traditional Korean music.
